All about the Rudbeckia

Lively coloured and cheerful, that's the Rudbeckia. The often yellow petals of this flower radiate from the central cone-shaped part of the Rudbeckia. It's not for nothing that this flower is also known as Sun Hat!

It's not for nothing that this flower is also called Sun Hat.

The Rudbeckia has a distinctive flower structure often described as a black eye flower because of its dark brown to black central cone surrounded by bright radiant petals. The petals are usually yellow, but there are also varieties with red and orange hues. The shape of the flower is similar to that of a daisy, with broad petals radiating outwards from the centre.

The name Rudbeckia is derived from Swedish scientist Olof Rudbeck the Elder and his son Olof Rudbeck the Younger, both of whom were well-known botanists. The plant was named after them as a tribute to their work and contributions to botany.
