All about the Sanguisorba

Beautiful, plump and elegant: that's the Sanguisorba, also known as the Great Pimpernel.

Nice to know: in the garden, Sanguisorba attracts the bluebell, a rare butterfly that lays its egg only on this particular flower. This then produces a new caterpillar and butterfly, and so the circle of life is complete again.

The flower has a striking appearance with long, slender stems on which a panicle-shaped inflorescence grows. The individual flowers are small and consist of numerous stamens and styles that rise above the flower. The petals themselves can vary in colour, but the most common shades are red, pink and purple. The fine texture of the flowers makes them appear to have a subtle, soft texture, adding to their attractiveness in bouquets and floral arrangements.
