Want to keep the Strelitzia beautiful for as long as possible? Then check out these care tips from grower Marco van Os. “When incorporating the flower in a bouquet or floral arrangement, it is better to put the flowers in a water tube than in a foam brick.”
Some other tips:
Remove the flowers from the box and cut the stem 2 centimetres from the bottom.
Put the flowers immediately in clean water.
Store the flowers at room temperature, not in cold storage, to avoid discolouration.
The shelf life is at least eight days for the first flowers.
Proper cutting and clean water are important, as is a tall, stable vase.
Cutting a small piece from the bottom of the stem once every three days increases the vase life.
If it appears to have finished flowering, look for some beautifully coloured petals still hidden in the length of the bud. Push them out carefully to enjoy this exotic plant even longer.

SubscribeThe '365 days of flowers' campaign is an initiative of the promotion committee 365 days of flowers, part of Royal FloraHolland. Over 1,800 growers from 15 different countries make this possible. They grow over 150 different flowers, which are promoted throughout the year based on Royal FloraHolland's availability dates. The objective of the '365 days of flowers' campaign is to jointly develop sales opportunities for florists.
