Drawing inspiration from the world of home accessories

Shanna Schoone (34) runs Schoone Flowers in the Dutch town of Assendelft together with her parents. She loves working with contrasts and creating unpredictable bouquets. In the shop, she creates a global atmosphere. Are you curious how?

“Creating different corners in the store is a good idea anyway. For a Mexican corner, for example, you can add a Mexican rug, as well as other accessories that fit nicely with that theme. If I put a salmon-pink vase in some random spot in the shop, it just wouldn't sell. But if I style it in the Mexican corner, it suddenly sells.”

She draws inspiration from absolutely everywhere. “We have 80 to 100 different flowers in the shop to work with every day, which are an inspiration in themselves. It's hard to make the same bouquet twice. I like to work with contrasts and create unpredictable bouquets. For example, making a bouquet with striking and colourful flowers, with a soft sprig of chamomile.” But she is also inspired by immersing herself in the world of home accessories. “When I see a cushion with purple and red, I think: that would be fantastic in a bouquet.”
