At Van Noort Hyacinten, the hyacinths are increasingly placed into containers filled with water (instead of soil). 'That makes the process nice and clean, according to Frank. 'Some varieties are not suitable for growing with hot water. We are discovering which ones are by experiment. In the end however, the result is the same!
At John and Rene van der Slot's nursery the hyacinths are in roll greenhouses. Their nursery is on the coast in the bull districts, where bulb growers and forcers have traditionally been located. 'We cover the soil with a layer of straw, John says. 'That provides an insulating cover!
