All about the Physalis

The bright orange lanterns of the Physalis, also known as lantern plant, add colour to your bouquet! The lanterns serve as a protective cover for the fruit inside.

The botanical name of the Lampion Plant 'Physalis' means bladder-shaped, referring to the lantern-shaped calyx with a berry inside. The actual flowers are white and don't represent much, but the orange lampions are irresistible!

The lush flower stalks of the Physalis easily blow in all directions; wire mesh keeps them in place. In summer, the plants bloom with modest white flowers, which grow into lanterns as the season progresses. Slowly these turn from green to bright orange.
