“Our shop is an oasis of calm”

Wim Markerink (61) has been running Bloemsierkunst Markerink in the Dutch city of Zutphen together with his wife Diane (58) for 40 years now. How does he continue to set himself apart from the rest?

Setting yourself apart

“As florist you cannot focus solely on flowers; that is not enough,” says Wim. “You have to look at the complete picture. Everything has to be right. Not only the interior design, but also the light and music. Our shop is also a concept store, where we for example sell small pots made by small potteries that you can’t buy anywhere else. And sometimes we also design things ourselves and have them made for us. In this way, we try to set ourselves apart from the rest.”

The '365 days of flowers' campaign is an initiative of the promotion committee 365 days of flowers, part of Royal FloraHolland. Over 1,800 growers from 15 different countries make this possible. They grow over 150 different flowers, which are promoted throughout the year based on Royal FloraHolland's availability dates. The objective of the '365 days of flowers' campaign is to jointly develop sales opportunities for florists.
