"We received calls from all over the Netherlands"

The family-run business Josina Flowers in Oss has been in business for over 100 years, and in 2014, friends Mireille and Suzanne took over the shop.

In 2018, they witnessed first-hand a tragic incident in which four children died when an electric cart (Stint) was struck by a train at a level crossing; a fifth child and their carer were seriously injured. “I’ll never forget that, because it made such a big impression here in the town,” says Suzanne.

Mireille adds: “We organised the funeral arrangements for the families and the memorial. We received calls and emails from people all over the Netherlands who wanted to transfer money so that we could lay flowers at the level crossing. It was very moving and, in a way, very touching that people trusted us to take care of this.”
